ACCOLADES McCain received many honors. He received honorary degrees from UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Barton, and UNC-Greensboro. She got the UNC Distinguished Service Medal, St. Mary’s Most Distinguished Alumna Award, and N.C. Award for Public Service. Faison and Duplin County honor her. Women’s Hall of Fame of N.C. Wilson’s Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club have honored her. American Red Cross’ Frederick E. Turnage Chapter honored her.
