Bob Appel Obituary, Death – Bob was a gregarious character who enjoyed widespread renown and celebrity. You could meet him almost anywhere. He and his wife, Helen, donated vast sums of money to charitable causes that influenced many people and had a lasting impact in areas including science, medicine, the humanities, and the classroom. All kinds of people benefited from the efforts of these organizations.
These included things like literature, science, and history study. Many people in and around New York City have benefited from this kind of continuous commitment and assistance. In addition, it has influenced a sizable number of businesses, all of which have been altered as a direct result of its impact.
Bob has always had a soft spot for jazz, and he plans to keep it that way forever. During his nearly decade-long tenure as Chairman of Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Apple Room was named in his honor as a significant symbol of the new age ushered in by the organization. Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Wynton Marsalis were just some of the big names that performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center when he was in charge. He served in this role for over ten years. After nearly ten years of service, he retired from the military.
Bob and Helen were frequent visitors to Dizzy’s during our performance season, and they always made an effort to say hello to each and every member of our staff by name. Having them as clients was a delight. It was a pleasure to have them as customers. The inclusion of Bob and Helen in any endeavor is guaranteed to be a positive experience.
Bob enjoyed making other people laugh and sharing anecdotes, and he never missed a chance to remind someone in the audience that his greatest accomplishment was.
