Bobby Holstine Obituary, Bobby Holstine Has Sadly Passed Away
- by Alex Danvers
Bobby Holstine Obituary, Death – The passing of a VFW member is a source of sorrow for us. Our deepest condolences go out to his family. Bobby Lee (Tuffy) Holstine, who lived in Alum Creek and was 93 years old when he passed away on November 21, 2022. On January 29th, Sam and Mavie (Bias) Holstine welcomed their first child in Olcott, West Virginia. Tuffy was ecstatic to announce to everyone in 1967 that he had been “Born Again,” and he immediately joined the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, where he eventually became a member of the church’s board of trustees.
He was preceded in death by Shirley, his wife of 60 years, as well as Junior, Charles, and Maxine Smith. Tim Holstine, who is married to Gayla and lives in Alum Creek, his granddaughters Tori Holstine, who lives in Poquoson, Virginia, and Maggie Leaptrot, who lives in Kenna, and his great-grandchildren Coleman and Haley Leaptrot are among those who will carry on his legacy. The Holstine nephews, Charles, Gary, and Jerry (Babe), were some of Dad’s favorite people. Dad was a proud veteran of the Korean War who served for two years in Germany on “high alert” defending the Fulda Gap during that conflict. While in Germany, he took a private train and participated in a baseball exhibition game with the Army’s exhibition team. Dad was an original member of the Honor Guard detail that serves the VFW Post 4768.
Dad cherished his time spent at the camp in Pocahontas County. He hunted native turkeys, deer, ginseng, and trout in their natural habitats. In his later years, he was often observed dozing off on the swing or idly sipping sweet tea while sitting on the steps of the porch. Rummy was one of dad’s favorite card games. The love of Dad’s life was heavy machinery. His retirement came from IUOE Local 132. While still employed as a mechanic in 1965, he made the purchase of his first bulldozer. In 2021, due to his deteriorating health, he was forced to “slow down,” and as a result, he gave up his excavating business. Never retired.
We are grateful to Jo, Tiffany, Amanda, and Libby for the care that they provided for Dad and the rest of the family. Donations to Hospice or Gideon Bibles are being requested in lieu of traditional floral tributes by the family.
Dwight McClure, dad’s longtime friend and former pastor, will preside over the service. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 28th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, West Virginia. VFW Post 4768 will be present to participate in graveside services at Graceland Memorial Park.
