Darrell Hardy Obituary, Maranatha Volunteers International Mourns Darrell Hardy Death

Darrell Hardy Obituary, Death – Darrell Hardy, Maranatha Volunteers International’s vice president of construction, died unexpectedly on November 20, 2022. “Words cannot express the immeasurable loss he has caused his family, his entire Maranatha team, and the Maranatha mission.” Over the last 35 years, he has had an incalculable impact on thousands of people all over the world. His death came as both a surprise and a tragedy. “We can only draw strength from the certain hope that comes through Jesus,” Maranatha Baptist Church president Don Noble said.

Darrell, 69, and his wife Gabriela were in Chile in early November with their children, Christopher, Kenzie, and Emily, for their daughter Kenzie’s wedding. They stayed to see the sights and visit churches that Maranatha had built during previous missions in Chile. He died unexpectedly while hiking with Gabriela. Darrell was in charge of overseeing field staff in multiple countries, construction design and quality control management, and property assessments for Maranatha’s church and school construction.

Hundreds of projects were also worked on by his team to ensure that they were ready for volunteers when they arrived. Because of his attention to detail and dedication to excellence, Maranatha’s construction was of the highest quality. He believed in Maranatha’s mission to provide well-designed, sturdy structures for our communities to use for God’s purposes. Darrell first became involved with Maranatha during a mission trip to Mexico in 1986.

He was so moved by the experience that he volunteered for Maranatha and later joined another project in Mexico in 1987. He performed so well that Maranatha hired him to join the team. He stayed with Maranatha for the next 35 years, first to Mexico to oversee projects there, then to all of Latin America, even living in several of them. He established the field staff and country director structure that is still used in Maranatha’s work today. He moved to Roseville, California, in 2011 to become vice president of construction for the Maranatha headquarters management team.
Details on how to set up a memorial fund or start a project in Darrell’s honor will be announced later.
