Donald Gill Obituary, Donald Gill of Decherd Has Passed Away

Donald Gill Obituary, Death –  Donald Lee Gill Sr. died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the age of 68 and a resident of Decherd. He was born in Winchester on July 1, 1954, to the late Claude Buck and Martha Evelyn (Finchum) Gill, both of whom predeceased him. His birthplace was Franklin County. He had spent twenty years at Franklin County Lumber before retiring from Commercial Nursery, where he had previously worked. In his spare time, he enjoyed activities such as hunting, racing, and working on automobiles.

He was the Mallards softball team’s starting pitcher, and he also enjoyed playing the game. But it was spending time with his beloved family, particularly his grandchildren, that Donnie looked forward to the most in life. He will be remembered for his willingness to go to any length for the people he cared about because of his kind and compassionate nature. Donnie went to church at the Decherd Mission on a regular basis whenever he could. His parents, as well as his brother Raymond “Tatero” Gill and sister Jean Shepherd, predeceased him.

His grandparents died before him as well. Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sandy Gill of Decherd; his son, Lee (Candis) Gill of Winchester; his grandchildren, Bailee Gill (Shelby Hardin) and Waylon Gill; his great-granddaughter, Natalie; his siblings, Sam Gill, Wayne Gill, Richard Gill, Curtis Gill, and Connie (Elton) Hall; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Donnie died on April 15, 2019. Visitation will be held at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home on Saturday, November 26, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Moore-Cortner Chapel on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with Bro. Howard Riddle officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Hodges, Jeremy Manley, Chad Shepherd, Charlie Green, Jason Vanzant, and Holden Vanzant at the funeral and interment service at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
