Eric Lerhe Obituary, Death – The Honorable Commander Eric James Lerhe, OMM, MSC, CD, PhD On the 21st of November, Ret’d passed away in Halifax under mysterious circumstances. Eric was a naval officer who belonged to a generation that had a genuine love for the Navy, and he was deeply committed to the Service as well as to Canada right up until the end of his life. after a few months of steadily deteriorating health Eric passed away. He had been a naval officer for quite some time. He had a successful career, during which he commanded the Royal Canadian Navy ships SAGUENAY and NIPIGON, as well as the Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Centre and Canada’s Pacific Fleet. Additionally, he was awarded the Order of Military Merit in the Order of Canada.
In addition to that, he served with distinction as Director of NATO Policy at the National Defense Headquarters, in addition to holding other significant responsibilities there. Eric possessed a razor-sharp intellect in addition to a quick and clever wit. His snappy comebacks and amusing anecdotes became legendary, despite the fact that they were almost all about him and to his own detriment. After he resigned, he went on to get a degree, publish a huge number of publications on subjects connected to naval and international security, and continue to be an advocate for the Navy and for Canada’s foreign interests who is steadfast and loyal. Eric had a wide variety of interests and hobbies, ranging from skilled woodworking and building to diving, kayaking, target shooting, drawing, and watercolor painting.
His interests and hobbies were diverse and eclectic. His interests and pastimes were as varied and varied as they could be. Eric was the definition of a true gentleman, which is a term that is rarely used in today’s society, and he led a life that was defined by respect and concern for the well-being of others. Many people will think of him fondly in terms of the excellent friend he was. The rest of Eric’s family, including his wife Nancy Lerhe, who lives in Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia, his brother Michael Lerhe, who lives in Victoria, British Columbia, and his sister Margaret Lerhe, who lives in Ottawa, Ontario, will love and miss him for the rest of their lives. Michael and Margaret Lerhe both live in Canada.
Before Eric was born, both of his parents, Spencer and Viola Lerhe, who had been residents of Galiano Island in British Columbia, passed away. Sweeny’s Funeral Home, which can be found in Bridgewater at 35 York Street, has been entrusted with the job of completing all of the appropriate arrangements. Eric has made it abundantly clear that he does not wish for a funeral or memorial service to be arranged in his honor.
