Eugene Facenda Obituary, Death – On Friday, November 18, 2022, Eugene Thomas Facenda passed away in a tranquil and peaceful manner at the age of 83. On November 10, 1939, he was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Emelia T. and Olive R. Facenda, both of whom had passed away before to the time of his birth. His birth took place in Portsmouth, Virginia. After graduating from St. Paul’s High School in 1957, he moved on to pursue a career as a backup vocalist with Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps. During this time, he was a member of the band. The year 1959 marked the beginning of his solo career, and it was around this time that he penned and released the hit song “High School U.S.A.”

Shortly after Eugene enlisted in the Army National Guard in the early 1960s, he began a career with the Portsmouth Fire Department, from which he eventually retired. This employment lasted until the end of Eugene’s life. After that, he eventually found work at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital as a security guard for the facility. In the same year (2012) that he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Blue Caps, the city of Portsmouth designated a roadway after him and called it Honorary Tommy Facenda Street. The street is located in Portsmouth.

Eugene’s daughter, Verna F. Bradshaw, and his son, Tommy E. Facenda, who was married to Eugene’s sister, both passed away before he did. Among those who carry on his legacy are his beloved wife Patricia G. Facenda, his daughters Gina C. Facenda and Angela F. Klecka, his grandchildren Zachary F. Klecka and Holly K. Monell, and five great-grandchildren. On the evening of Thursday, December 1st, members of the family will be present at the Foster Funeral Home in Portsmouth, which can be found at 1926 High Street. The hours of attendance are from 6:00 to 7:30 o’clock. On Friday, December 2nd, at 11 o’clock in the morning, a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church in Portsmouth, which can be found at 522 High Street. The date and time for the Mass of the Resurrection is Friday, December 2nd.
