Frank Lovsin Obituary, Death – On November 20, Frank Lovsin, who was the company’s founder and chairman emeritus, passed away while surrounded by his family at home. He had been ill for some time. He was 88. It has been said that Lovsin is a visionary entrepreneur who has capitalized on financial opportunities while also delivering high-quality meals to communities in rural Alberta. The corporation stated its position in a statement “Frank was a fiercely independent Albertan who did not mince words when advocating for what was best for his community, his country, and the globe in general. He was a native of the city of Edmonton. The most important things in Frank’s life were his family and his business. He worked hard at both.”

In 1955, Lovsin founded a little butcher shop in the community of Hinton, Alberta, which marked the beginning of his career in the culinary industry. From there, he expanded the company, building it up to a network of 16 grocery shops across the province. As a result, Freson Bros. is recognized as the most successful family-owned and independently operated grocery store in Alberta. In addition to his success in business, Lovsin was recognized throughout his life for the significant contributions he made to charitable causes. Of particular note is the fact that he was invested into the Order of Canada in the year 2010.

As a respected leader in both the business world and the local community, Lovsin was honored with a number of lifetime achievement awards by his contemporaries in the industry as well as by a variety of local communities, including the Aboriginal and First Nations communities located in Northern Alberta. In addition to that, he was the Chairman of the Boards of Fairview College, the Alberta Mortgage Housing Board, the Alberta Energy Board, and the Alberta Premier’s Council. He was also a founding member of the Independent Retail Grocers Association. His children Mike, Paula, Doug, and Ken, as well as his grandkids and great-grandchildren, are the only members of Lovsin’s family to survive him.
