Gayle Garris Obituary, North Surry High School-Official Mourns Gayle Garris Death

Gayle Garris Obituary, Death – Our hearts are filled with sorrow at the news of Mr. Gayle Garris’s passing, of whose passing we were only recently made aware, and we were saddened to learn of his passing upon hearing this news. Mr. Garris, an esteemed educator in the field of social studies, spent almost all of his teaching career at North Surry, where he was employed for almost four decades. He was known for his dedication to the profession. Although Mr. Garris was born in Elkin, he spent the majority of his childhood in East Bend. This is despite the fact that Elkin is his birthplace. In 1964, he received his diploma from East Bend High School, where he attended and graduated from. That was the school that he went to.

After completing his studies at Arizona State University and earning a degree in education in 1968, he worked as a student teacher at Surry Central High School. During that time, he was there, he was also an assistant football coach. On September 1, 1968, which was the first day of the 1968–1969 school year, he started his new job as a teacher at North Surry. This also marked the beginning of the academic year. In 2007, he came to the conclusion that it was time for him to hang up his boots.

When Vicki and Mr. Garris decided to end their nearly half-century-long marriage, they had been married for nearly that long. Their two beautiful daughters, Wendy and Heather, were the inspiration for their given names. In addition to her career in education, Wendy Sawyers is the wife of fellow educator Trevi Sawyers. Together, the couple has a daughter named Nicole, whom they have brought up as a family member.

It is common knowledge that Mr. Garris had an impact on a sizeable number of his students throughout the nearly 39 years that he spent working as a teacher. Please do not be bashful about sharing any of your most cherished memories of Mr. Garris or offering any words of comfort to his family in the comment section below; we would greatly appreciate it. It would mean a lot to us if you could do that.
