George Carder Searcy AR Obituary, Death – A great Southern gentleman, George Frank Carder III passed away at his Searcy, Arkansas, home on Thursday, November 17, 2022. On June 10, 1951, he was born to Mary Jane Carder and George “Frank” Carder, Jr., becoming the priceless blessing of their relationship. George fully enjoyed all that Searcy had to offer because he was reared two blocks away in a small rock house and was born and raised there. Mr. Carder received his education from Searcy Public Schools, where the Class of 1969 elected him Class President. In 1973, he graduated from Hendrix College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business.
He participated in the varsity cross-country team while attending Hendrix. He eventually went on to complete his lifelong education by obtaining a Master of Business Administration from Harding University in 2006 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law in 2004. He earned degrees from the General Motors University-College of Dealership Management and the Institute of Politics and Government during his professional career. His varied career included work in law, banking, real estate, and the auto industry. While working for First National Bank, National Bank of Commerce of Memphis, Central Arkansas Mortgage, and White County Guaranty Savings and Loan, Mr. Carder said he had a great experience in the banking industry.
He started working at Carder Buick-Old’s Company, Inc. in 1979 as the General Manager before becoming the Dealer. The oldest continuously-owned Buick dealership west of the Mississippi had a dealer before him and his father before him. He held the positions of Director and then Regional Vice President of the Arkansas Automobile Dealers Association during his time there. He also proudly held the positions of president and secretary-treasurer of Searcy Aviation, where he was a pilot, and of Carder Investments, Inc., a business real estate investment firm. With his cherished boxer Juris Prudence by his side, Mr. Carder established Carder Law Firm in 2004. There, he enthusiastically defended his clients or, in his own words, “helped his pals.
” He was named the “Best Attorney” by the Daily Citizen and served as president of the White County Bar Association in 2010. He also held the positions of Arkansas Oil and Gas Commissioner and Little Rock Air Force Base Honorary Commander for the 19th Airlift Wing JAG. Mr. Carder was an active member of the neighborhood. He belonged to Searcy’s First United Methodist Church. Mr. Carder, who served as President of his club in 1983 and was a Paul Harris Fellow, was the epitome of the Rotary 4 Way Test and dedicated to it (1984). He held the positions of Director of the White County Community Foundation and Director of the Searcy Public Schools Education Foundation. The K.B. Rand golf tournament was one of his favorite events to broadcast, but his main talent was making his buddies laugh with a joke.
Mr. Carder was a devoted basketball fan, a fan of southern cuisine, and a traditionalist. He would swiftly respond “basketball” when asked what his favorite season was, and the Temptations’ music provided the background music for his life. However, Mr. Carder was most proud of the young men he taught and considered friends. He actively worked with the Arkansas Amateur Athletic Union, guiding the Carder Buick AAU basketball teams to national fame. He was undoubtedly among the excellent people. His wife, Sharon Lee Carder, his children, Dr. Casey Carder Rockwell (Eric) of Little Rock, Ark., Casey Lee Hawkins (Cody) of Georgetown, Texas, and Steven “Blaine” Jones (Wendy) of Phoenix, Ariz., as well as five adorable grandchildren, Whitfield Carder, Elliott Claire, Sutton Reynolds Rockwell, Emily Nicole, and Anderson “Troy” Jones, all of Little Rock, Ark., and Steven “Blaine” Jones.
The Powell Funeral Home in Searcy will host a visitation on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 5-8 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Following, there will be a burial in Searcy’s Oakgrove Cemetery. For memorials, Mr. Carder has chosen the Searcy Public Schools Education Foundation, the Rotary Club of Searcy, the First United Methodist Church, or a charity of one’s choosing.
