Gladys Huhnke Obituary, Death – Gladys E. Huhnke, age 92, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 in Valparaiso, Indiana. Prior to moving to Valparaiso, Indiana, Gladys E. Huhnke lived in Hanna and North Manchester. She was born on March 5th, 1930 in Hanna, Indiana to parents called Claude and Grace (Cumerford) Lute. Her birth year is listed as 1930. She graduated from Union Mills High School in 1948 after completing her high school education there. Gladys began her career as a clerk at the Valparaiso Post Office and worked there for the first 15 years of her working life before relocating to North Manchester and beginning work as a teller at Indiana Lawrence Bank.
Prior to this, Gladys worked at a bank in Valparaiso. Prior to that, she was an active member of the Wanatah community through her participation at Faith United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Because taking care of her flowers and yard was so important to her, she would do it even when the temperatures were at their highest. You may find her passing the time in her spare time by reading for pleasure or watching baseball, especially games involving the Chicago Cubs. When she is really agitated, the time when she is most likely to be heard saying things like “Shoot the cats!” and “Holy socks!” is also the time when you are most likely to hear her say these things.
On the 31st of January 1953, she wed Alfred G. Huhnke, and he was the one who passed away first, in 2001. They had been married for over fifty years. The couple’s children, Glenn (Robin) Huhnke of Hanna and Arlene (Max) Robbins of Brownsburg, as well as the couple’s sister Estella (Donald) Rosenbaum of Wanatah, seven of their grandchildren, and twelve of their great-grandchildren, are among the survivors. Also surviving are the couple’s great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by one son, Michael Huhnke, who went away in the year 2010, her siblings Violet, Marian, Sherman, and Walter, as well as a great-granddaughter.
Michael Huhnke passed away in the year 2010. 2010 was the year that Michael Huhnke finally gave up the ghost. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Wanatah Funeral Chapel from noon to 2:00 p.m., immediately followed by the funeral service which will begin at 2:00 p.m., and then the burial will take place at Hanna Cemetery after the service. Donations made in honor of the person who has passed away can be made to the VNA Hospice.
