Janet Small Obituary, Death – It is with a heavy heart to inform you that Sgt. Janet SMALL (née MacDonnell) #8169 passed away on November 24, 2022, at Hospice Simcoe. My deepest condolences go out to you and your family during this difficult time. In July 2020, a diagnosis of Glioblastoma, a stage IV malignancy, was given to Janet. On March 27, 1993, Janet signed up to work for the Ontario Provincial Police and was assigned to the Shelburne Detachment. On December 5, 1994, Janet was given orders to report to the Barrie Detachment.

Janet moved from the Huronia East Detachment to the Nottawasaga Detachment on April 2, 2001, after having been transferred there on January 24, 2000. On March 4, 2002, Janet arrived back in Barrie after her trip. On October 22, 2007, Janet made the move to General Headquarters (GHQ), where she was assigned to the Security Assessment Unit within the Business and Financial Services Bureau.
Janet received a promotion to the rank of Sergeant and was reassigned to the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau on March 12, 2012. On

On July 31, 2017, Janet was given a promotion that saw her move to the Provincial Operations Centre’s Field Support Bureau.
When she died away, Sergeant Janet Small had more than 29 years of service under her belt and was 57 years old.
On September 14, 2011, Janet’s father, the retired Intelligence Branch Sergeant Ted MacDonnell, passed away. He was predeceased by his daughter. My deepest sympathies go out to the MacDonnell and Small families; may you all finally find some peace.

The prognosis Janet was provided in August 2020 was 15 months with aggressive treatment. Janet has been at war since her diagnosis, undergoing 2 craniotomy’s, 40 rounds of radiation, and many months of chemotherapy. Janet has celebrated many triumphs over the past year and her friends and family have admired her courageous fight for life.
Janet has not laid down her sword; however, she will be forging on through to the toughest part of her journey leading her fearless battalion with Devyn and Dakota arm in arm. Janet is no longer receiving oncology or radiology treatments and is working with a palliative care team.
