- by Alex Danvers
Jess Pilkington Obituary, Death – Those who knew Jess well were aware that his family, golf, and the satisfaction of his customers were the three things that brought him the most joy in life. And on rare occasions, the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ football team. Everyone that Jess came into contact with felt the warmth of his heart and generosity. He never failed to inquire after your loved ones or seek out ways in which he could be of assistance to you.
It didn’t matter how busy he was or what he was going through; he would drop everything to offer guidance or an uplifting dose of positivity when he saw someone else in need. Those who knew him well described him as a constant beacon of hope in times of trouble. Many people who treasured their friendship with him will be saddened by the loss of his uplifting presence. With the past 25 years, Jess has worked as a financial counselor for Edward Jones, serving his community in that capacity.
He developed an extraordinary connection with many of his customers and cared passionately for them as a result. In times of profound change in one’s life, such as the one we are currently experiencing, many people looked to him for direction. He served as a mentor to nearly hundreds of financial advisors, which earned him repeated instances of the Edward Jones Spirit of Caring Aware award. As unassuming as Jess was, many people were unaware that he had been recognized as a leading advisor within his company at the annual Leader’s Conference for a number of years running.
Additionally, he enjoyed working side by side with his daughter during the course of the previous eight years. Jess’s family and friends were the primary sources of his happiness in life, surpassing any other source. Reading to his granddaughter Olivia or going for a game of golf were the activities that brought him the most joy. His golden rule, which was to treat others the way you would want to be treated, will be the most fitting way to remember his legacy.
He is survived by his wife Joni and two daughters, JaCee (Michael) Petko and JaLee Pilkington, both of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; his granddaughter Olivia Petko; his brother Brian (Linda) Pilkington; and a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and very special friends. He will be greatly missed. Both of his parents, Donald and Dorothy Pilkington of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, as well as his infant brother, David Pilkington, had passed away before him. He is the last of his family members.
