John Colbert Obituary, John Colbert Has Passed Away Unexpectedly

John Colbert Obituary, Death – John Colbert, a resident of Byron, Ohio, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday. John was born on the 5th of October in Starkville, Mississippi. As a child, he moved around a lot due to his family’s military employment, both in the United States and abroad. He graduated from high school in Virginia, then went on to Mississippi State University for his bachelor’s degree, and then to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York for his master’s degree.
John and Marcy Tagge married in 1973 after exchanging vows. In 1982, John relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, to begin his career as a mechanical engineer with IBM. They first settled in Rochester, Minnesota, before making the journey to rural Byron in 1989. At the time of his departure from IBM in 2013, John owned a total of 32 patents while working as a Senior Technical Engineer in the Server Development Department.
Throughout his life, John enjoyed an adventurous and passionate life. He paddled his kayak down the Mississippi River all the way to the Gulf of Mexico two weeks after retiring from IBM. He simply did it because it was something he had always wanted to do. John wasn’t the sort to back down from a fight. He competed in a number of other events, including climbing Long’s Peak in Colorado and three Spartan races. He was a very proud man who was well-liked in the Progression Fitness community. His favorite interests included skiing, sledding with his grandchildren, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, woodworking, and anything mechanical. He has no plans to ever cease seeking knowledge and growth. He was a dedicated man who loved and devoted himself to both God and his family.
John is survived by his wife, Marcy, his three children, Lisa (Jeremy) Moreland of Rochester, David Colbert of Minneapolis, and Sarah (Mike) Kramer of Rochester, as well as eight grandchildren, Annalise, Hudson, Harper, Sayde, Aurora, Evelyn, Gabriella, and William. John also leaves his parents behind. He is also survived by two sisters, Beth Colbert Vail, who lives in Mississippi, and Sandy (Ronnie) Freeland, who lives in Colorado. His parents, Harold Max and Margaret Sue, and his younger brother, Mark, died before him. He was the only child in the family.
