John Schaefer Obituary, Death – German parents who had escaped Johanniskirchen, Germany during World War II along with his mother, grandparents, and other family members gave birth to John in Murga, Hungary. Throughout the conflict, his father went missing in combat. John and his mother immigrated to America in 1950. John served in the United States Army from December 5, 1958, to November 29, 1960, and from 1961 to 1964 as an active reservist. Up until 1966, John worked as a tool and die maker before switching to a sales position with DoAll Industrial Tool Supplies. As a result, he was promoted to the position of the company’s worldwide sales manager and began traveling. He eventually acquired Wakefield-Schaefer Industrial Tool Distributors, which he later sold after 24 years.

Later on, he founded Adler Enterprises, which he continued to operate. John served on the board of directors of the National Industrial Distributors Association and as president of the Wisconsin Industrial Distributors Association during this time. John had valued his Bavarian heritage and had contributed significantly to its teaching and preservation. He has given numerous seminars, published numerous papers, and was frequently called to speak at events regarding the various customs of his native country. He also provided German instruction. Having joined the D’Oberlandler Schuhplattler in 1953, he served as its president for 45 years when Ehren became president in 1978.

He participated in the establishment of the Gauverband Nordamerika and served as an officer for 45 years straight. He was an honorary member of the Enzian Schuhplatter in Kaiserlautern, Germany’s Rhein-Main Gau, and the D’ Neuschwanstoana in Fuessen, Germany’s Oberer Lech Gau. John also belonged to the Spielmannzug Milwaukee Drum & Bugle Chor, where he and Carol were named the 1982–1983 season’s Prinzen Paar. Since 1981, John had been a member of the German Fest board of directors. Sr. Vice President & Associate Fest Director, Vice President of Advertising & Promotion, Entertainment, Special Events, and his first love, Culture and Heritage, were just a few of the many titles he had held.

John wed Carol, his dearest friend, on September 27, 1958. They had a 64-year marriage. John is survived by his wife Carol and two other children, Kevin (Lauren) Schaefer and Cindy (Stephan) Regenfuss, both of Milwaukee. He was also “Opa” to his three grandchildren, John Hartz, Annabelle, and Sophia Schaefer, whom he adored. His brother-in-law Harro Lenz, along with other family members and friends in Germany and Austria, are also left to mourn his loss.
