June Thompson Obituary, Archivist For MONOVA Has Died
- by Doris Lian
June Thompson Obituary, Death – We are sorry to inform you that June Thompson has passed away. Please accept our sincere condolences (nee Lauritzen). Owen and Eunice, her parents, died before her, and she is survived by her loving husband Jack and daughters Diane (with Blair) and Lauri (partner Kohl). June was born and raised in Vancouver, but during her senior year of high school, she was forced to attend boarding school in England against her will. On the plus side, she was able to form lifelong friendships with her classmates. She could also spend her summers with her family in Denmark, where her beloved father was born.
June was a voracious reader who also enjoyed gardening, photography, and travel. Because she worked as an archivist at the North Shore Museum and Archives for 25 years (her “dream job”), family vacations frequently included multiple museum visits, much to her husband and children’s chagrin. Her tenacity and enthusiasm in communicating her love of history and discovering what makes a strange and unfamiliar place so special enriched her family’s lives. Mom, you were entirely correct!
June was also concerned about women’s rights and the freedom to have children, which prompted her to join the North Shore Women’s Centre. She was able to find kinship and deep friendships through her involvement with the Center (hello, ‘F Group!’). It’s difficult to believe that June’s thoughtfulness, warmth, common sense, helpful advice, and sense of humor will never be available to us again. When she passes away, her devoted friends and family will be devastated.
There are currently no plans to hold a ceremony or service. Nature walks, sitting in a park and listening to the wind rustle the leaves, gazing at a sea, river, or lake, or viewing artwork depicting nature’s beauty are all wonderful ways to spend quality time reflecting on your loved one. However, if you want to spend time thinking about her specifically, we recommend the following activities: We can’t imagine anything she’d be more excited about than the chance to “Commune with June.”
