Marion “Bird Dog” Lowder Obituary, Death – After a long and courageous fight against cancer, Marion Charles Lowder, age 68, died away on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the McLeod Hospice House. Marion Charles Lowder was the son of the late Arnold Charles Lowder and Jacqueline McAllister Lowder. He was born on February 28, 1954, in Florence County, South Carolina. He had spent his entire childhood in the Camp Branch neighborhood that is located in Scranton. Marion was a member of the graduating class of Lake City High School in 1972 and continued her education at Florence Darlington Technical College, where she earned an associate’s degree in civil engineering.
After 32 years of dedicated devotion to his city, he took early retirement from his position as City Administrator for the City of Lake City. He attended the Grace Free Will Baptist Church on a regular basis. In addition to participating in a wide variety of other organizations during the course of his life, Marion served as a board member for the Lake City Airport Commission, was a current member of the Florence County Developing Communities Commission, and was a former state constable. Marion was a master of many skills and a wonderful friend to everyone she met. He was a devoted participant in the sports of fishing, golfing, and hunting. Being a loving grandfather was “Big D’s” all-time favorite hobby and job, regardless of how many other things he did in his life.
Surviving members of his family include his daughter, Dr. Marian DeAnna “DeDe” Lowder, as well as her mother, Carlene Lowder, both of Lake City; his grandchildren, Harper Drew, Carlie, and Brinkley; his brother, Wyman (Karon) Lowder, and his sister, Teressa Lowder, both of Scranton; his niece, Megan (Ward) Powell, and his great nephew, Heston Powell. His parents and brother, Carroll Drew Lowder, passed away before Marion did. Marion was the last of his family to pass away.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Free Will Baptist Church in Lake City on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10:00 AM, and burial will follow at Lake City Memorial Park immediately after the service. On Friday, November 25, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, friends and family are invited to visit with the family at Carolina Funeral Home. Donations in memory of the deceased can be sent to the Grace Free Will Baptist Church, which is located at 348 Lawrence Street in Lake City, South Carolina 29560.
