Mark McDonald Obituary, Death – On Wednesday, March 30, Dr. Mark A. McDonald, 65 years old, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly in his home after suffering a heart attack. Mark McDonald was conceived in the year 1956 in Oak Park, Illinois, by his mother Elizabeth, and his late father, John D. McDonald. Dr. McDonald received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois in 1979 after graduating from Elgin High School in 1974. While at the University of Illinois, he earned a letter of recognition in the sports of football and wrestling and was a member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. After that, Mark went on to receive his Master of Education degree from Northern Illinois University in 1985 and his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Illinois in 1992.

Mark started his career in education after completing his undergraduate degree. He was hired at Mooseheart High School where he taught high school history and coached both football and track. In 1985, he guided Mooseheart to its first-ever berth in the IHSA state football playoffs, and the next two seasons, the team went unbeaten in the regular season (1985 & 1986). After Mooseheart, Mark decided to pursue a career in educational administration.

He began his career at West Aurora High School, where he worked his way up to the position of principal, then moved on to Downers Grove South High School, where he also served as principal, and ultimately became the superintendent of School District 99. At each location, Mark was singled out for his exceptional support of students and staff as well as his dedication to providing an excellent educational experience.

Mark is survived by his first wife, Elizabeth, his sons, Andrew (Stephanie) and Tony (Christina), their six grandchildren (Luke, Emma, Theodore, Frederick, Molly, and Malcolm), his brother John (Cynthia) McDonald, his sisters Laura (Vadim) McDonald and Leslie McDonald, his nieces Katie McDonald and Emily (Guillermo) Valles, his nephew William Llovich, his great-nephew Cameron Pathana and
