Marlyn Noteboom Obituary, Death – Marlyn Jay Noteboom had a prosperous and fruitful life till the day she passed away on November 19, 2022. On September 16, 1944, Joyce Noteboom (Sorenson) and Marvin Noteboom became parents for the first time to their son Jay. On a farm not far away, he and his parents and four siblings spent the first twelve years of his life together. In his youth, some of his favorite activities were exploring the land around the house, scaling trees, and playing with his sister.
His interest in learning was awakened while he was attending classes in a one-room schoolhouse. After that, his family relocated to a location in Sioux Falls that was considerably more densely populated. During his time in high school, he was a member of the band “The Jadesmen,” playing guitar. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for South Dakota.
After graduating from high school, he joined the Marine Corps and proudly served there for four years. He did his military service in Hawaii as well as Okinawa, Japan. In 1964, he tied the knot with Kathy Joyce while he was serving in the Marines. That is the year that Marilyn Tammeling was born. Following his time in the military, he attended Augustana University and Purdue University to earn his English degrees with the assistance of the GI bill.
After moving to Illinois, Jay spent the better part of three decades working as an English professor at Palos Hill’s Moraine Valley Community College. Joanne Hendrickson’s mother passed away before both of Joanne’s father’s previous marriages. Becky McBoom (Noteboom) and Rachel were both born in the year 1992 and 1990 respectively. After he retired from teaching, he began writing under the pen name I.M. Tillerman and eventually published 13 books. Significant contributions to my writing came from Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, and William Shakespeare.
