Neal Van der Groef Obituary, Death – On Monday, November 21, 2022, Neal Van der Groef, 62, from Wantage, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior following a tragic accident that occurred while he was engaged in the work that he cherished. On November 26th, 1959, Neal was welcomed into the world at Newton Memorial Hospital. He moved to Wantage when he was 5 years old after having lived in Andover Township for the first 5 years of his life; he had lived in Sussex County his entire life. In 1978, Neal received his high school diploma from High Point Regional High School. He was a successful businessman in all areas of the construction industry who put in a lot of effort and had taught himself everything he knew. For the past 15 years, Neal has been the sole proprietor of and a successful operator of NVG Construction.

Neal had an undying love for the Lord in every fiber of his being. He loved his family with all of his heart. The fact that his five grandchildren called him “Bapa” was the source of his utmost happiness throughout his life. Neal was a deacon at Christ the King Church in Dover, where he was also a devoted member of the congregation. The Market Street Mission counted on Neal’s unwavering support for years. He used to be a part of the Beemerville Volunteer Fire Department, and during his time there, he was the department’s chaplain. Neal was the driving force behind the construction of Northwest Christian School in Newton, and for many years he served as the school’s Board President. The Mets, the Giants, NASCAR, and soccer were among his favorite things to watch in the little spare time he had. The legacy that Neal leaves behind is one of unselfish service to other people.

His children, Jenna Leigh Sebring and husband Seth, Dustin Neal Van der Groef and wife Becky, and Kelsey Erin Murphy and husband Will; his grandchildren, Hudson, Clayton, Adrielle, Zion, and Rylan; and his siblings, Gert Sweeney and husband Bob, Herman Van der Groef and wife Tami, and Jeff Van der Groef. On Sunday, November 27, 2022, visitation will take place from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, which is located at 63 High Street in Newton, New Jersey. Christ the King Church, located at 39 Orchard Street in Dover, New Jersey, will be the location of the funeral services that will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022, at 10 am. The final resting place will be at Beemerville Cemetery, which can be found at 241 CR 519 in Wantage, New Jersey.
