Philip Fletcher Obituary, Death – Philip Lee Fletcher, 74, died in Amarillo, Texas, on November 24, 2022. Jim and Dorothy Fletcher gave birth to “Phil” on December 12, 1947 in Potter County, Texas. He grew up in a farming and ranching family as the second of three boys. He had a lifelong fascination with horses. He was a 4H member as a child for many years. His true ambition was to become a horseman, and he enjoyed team roping, team penning, and sorting.
Phil met his future wife, Gayla Sue Endicott, at Texas Tech. They went dancing on their first date, and they spent many evenings dancing in the kitchen throughout their lives. They moved to Logan, New Mexico, as newlyweds, and began their married life in a “very modest” rancher’s bunkhouse outside of town. Gayla accompanied him as they moved 22 times in the Texas Panhandle during their marriage. Cody Lee, their first son, was born in 1970. James Chance, their second son, was born in 1974, and Tessa Lorraine, their daughter, was born in 1975.
Throughout his career, Phil has worked for several cattle companies, including Mesa Cattle Company, Valley View Cattle Company, and Amarillo Livestock Auction. He also ran Security Abstract Company and worked at Herring Bank in Clarendon, Texas. Amigos Cattle Company, his most recent venture, was so enjoyable that he never considered retiring. Because of his gifted sense of numbers, he enjoyed assisting others with accounting and business mentoring.
Gayla, his wonderful wife, Jim Fletcher and Dorothy Hunter, and his brother Gary Fletcher Sr. all died before him. He is survived by his sons Cody and Erin Fletcher of Whitesboro, Texas, Chance and Shelly Fletcher of Richardson, Texas, and Tessa Morrow and her husband Joe Morrow of Claude, Texas. Alan Fletcher and his wife Tonya Fletcher of Amarillo, Texas, are also survivors. Dillon Morrow of Claude, Texas, Tristan Fletcher and his wife Taylor Fletcher of Waller, Texas, Bailey Morrow and his wife Michaella Morrow of Waller, Texas, Megan Fletcher of Dallas, Texas, Caden Fletcher and Cole Fletcher of Richardson, Texas were among his grandchildren. Caleb Morrow and Tate Fletcher, his great-grandchildren, were also born to him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Claude EMS can be made. Clarendon’s Robertson Funeral Directors handled the cremation and arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Burrow in Claude on Saturday, November 26, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM.
