Rafael Garcia Obituary, Rafael Garcia of Columbia Has Passed Away
Rafael Garcia Obituary, Death – Rafael Garcia, Jr., who was 84 years old and had resided in Columbia, South Carolina all of his life, passed away on November 21st, 2022. He was born Rafael Garcia and Fundadora Garcia on June 19th, 1938 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His parents’ names were Rafael Garcia and Fundadora Garcia. Rafael was given an honorable discharge from the United States Army at the rank of First Sergeant after having served in the military for a total of 20 years. In addition, after 19 years of service at the Hardwick Chemical Company in Elgin, South Carolina, Rafael was given an honorable discharge from the company.
Rafael served in Vietnam for a total of two tours, during which time he was honored with a number of medals and decorations, such as the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Meritorious Service Commendation, and the National Defense Service Medal. He also received the National Defense Service Medal. Only his four daughters, Anacelis Nemec, Angela Veitzke, Linda Lescanec, and Carmen Brooks, will continue the family business after their father’s passing.
In addition to his son Rafael Garcia III, he is survived by his sisters Olga Ortiz, Damasa Sulsona, and Georgina Fousek, as well as his brother Santiago Garcia. Rafael Garcia III is the only member of his family to have survived his passing. He has seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to that, he is the biological father of Steven Mitchell and Sammy Mitchell, both of whom are stepsons. Prior to Rafael’s passing, his cherished granddaughter Angela, his parents, his brother, and his partner of 42 years, Gladys “Jeanette” Mitchell, all passed away. One of his brothers will carry on after him.
On Monday, November 28, 2018, from 10 am until 11 am, family and friends of Mr. Garcia are invited to pay their respects at the Thompson Funeral Home located within Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia, South Carolina. The service will begin at 10 am and continue until 11 am. The funeral service will start at eleven in the morning, and at twelve there will be a service at the graveside with full military honors.
