Rita Brackney Obituary, Death – Rita Brackney, age 86, of Washington, Illinois, and formerly of Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away on November 16, 2022 at 9:57 p.m. in the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, Illinois. She was a resident of Shelbyville, Illinois. She called the town of Shelbyville in Illinois her home. Visitation will be held at the Howe and Yockey Funeral Home on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

The graveside services that are going to take place on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Union Cemetery in Altamont, Illinois are going to be presided over by Bob Herdes. They are scheduled to begin at eleven in the morning. Donations can be made in his honor to the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, Illinois or the Parkinson’s Research Foundation in Sarasota, Florida. Both of these organizations are located in the United States.
The parents of Sue Blakely were Charles Francis Blakely and Lucille (Bowers) Blakely. Sue was their daughter. Altamont, Illinois was the location of her birth on February 9, 1936. When she received her diploma in 1954, she was a part of the Altamont High School class that year. It was on July 20, 1960, at the First United Methodist Church in Altamont that she and James “Jim” Willis Brackney exchanged their vows and became husband and wife.
Sue was employed as a bank teller at the First Trust Bank in Shelbyville right up to the time that she decided to retire. Both in her hometown of Shelbyville, Indiana, and in Bradenton, Florida, where she spent the winter months of her life, she was an avid golfer and a member of golf leagues. She was a golfer for the majority of her life. In the community of Washington, Illinois, where she lived, Sue was very interested in the Crossroads United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; her three children, Cheryl Carney (Patrick), Steve Brackney (Melynda), and Karen Stevens (Todd), all of St. Charles, Illinois; her sisters, Mabel Behles of North Aurora, Illinois, and Ruth Ann Hoffmeister of Altamont, Illinois; and her six grandchildren, Cloe and Jack Brackney, Patrick and Bill Carney, and Brynn Stevens. She was born in North Aurora, Illinois, and
Her parents and her brother James Blakely had all previously passed away before to her passing. She was the only member of her family to have lived to an old age.
