Tony Mazzorana Obituary, Death – Mazzorana, who was 75 years old at the time of his death on May 27, 2018, was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 14, 1943. He passed away in New Lenox, Illinois. The deaths of John’s parents, Anthony and Elsie Mazzorana, as well as his wife, Claudia, came before John’s own. Mazzorana is survived by his devoted children Vicki Mazzorana M.D., Michelle Stokes (Roy), Katherine Wilson, Jason Mazzorana (Angie), and Anthony Mazzorana; his cherished grandchildren Jacob Wilson, Madeline Wilson, and Gianna Mazzorana; his brother Dennis Mazzorana (Therese); his compassionate companion of many years, Sandy Meinke, and her daughter Amanda Wrobel; as well as a large number of nephews and nieces.

Mazzorana earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePaul University in 1965, a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University Law School, and graduated from Mendel Catholic High School in 1961. (1968). John spent the better part of the last half-century working as an attorney in south Cook County and Will County. He had a great deal of passion for the legal profession and the clients he served.

Although he was born and raised in Chicago, he moved to Mokena with his family in 1976. There, he brought up his five children and ultimately decided to consider Mokena to be his hometown. Over the course of more than three decades, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the people of the Village of Mokena. In 1987, he won a seat on the Board of Commissioners for the Mokena Park District, where he later became President and remained in that role until 1993.

In 1993, he won a seat on the Board of Trustees for the Village of Mokena, and from then until his retirement in 2018, he was re-elected for a total of five consecutive terms. Mazzorana was especially proud of the fact that he had served the Village throughout its period of greatest growth (1993-2007) as well as its period of greatest recession (2008-2011). Mokena was successful regardless of the circumstances.
Mazzorana was also involved in a wide variety of other organizations, including the Mokena Area Historical Society, the Mokena Chamber of Commerce, and many others. John was the voice of the Annual 4th of July parade held in Mokena for a good portion of his life.

The public is invited to pay their respects at the Vandenberg Funeral Home, located at 19604 Wolf Road in Mokena, Illinois, on Sunday, June 3, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. On Monday, June 4, at 11:00 in the morning, there will be a memorial service held at Tuscany Falls Banquets, which is located at 9425 W. 191st Street in Mokena, Illinois. The interment will be carried out in secret. The family would be grateful for any donations made in memory of their loved one to the Mokena Area Historical Society or St. John’s United Church of Christ.
