Trevor earned a BACS degree from Sydney Academy and CBU. Following that, he received an honorable letter from the CBU Athletics Department. Despite Trevor’s brief life, and despite his physical restrictions, he accomplished a great deal. Trevor will be remembered for his infectious grin and upbeat demeanor. Trevor’s brother, Mark; grandfather, Gordon Thompson; aunts, Jeanette and Margie Thompson of Sydney; uncles, Gordie (Tina) Thompson of Dartmouth, Darren (Trish) Thompson of Ottawa, David (Brenda) Rutherford of Calgary, and Gordie (Vivian) Rutherford of British Columbia; and nephew, Gordie (Vivian) Rutherford of British Columbia survive. His living relatives are Hannah, Michael, Emma, Matthew, Geoffrey, and Michael.

Trevor’s infant brother, Christopher, his maternal grandmother, Catherine Thompson, his paternal grandparents, JB and Helen Rutherford, and two uncles, Michael Thompson and Gerald Rutherford, all died before him (in infancy). A visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 11 a.m., with interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Rev. Evo DiPierro will officiate. The funeral will be aired live on the Sydney Memorial Chapel’s Facebook page.

Thank you to his personal care team, the ICU crew, the respiratory staff, Drs. Robert Cohen, Phil Curry, and Robert Hodson, and their colleagues at VON. Dr. Salsman and Trevor’s team from the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre, as well as David and the employees of Lawton’s in Sydney and Stephen from Lawton’s in Halifax, were in Halifax. It is said that it takes a village to raise a kid; in Trevor’s case, he had a whole community of individuals and organizations that supported him and assisted him in becoming the person everyone knew and loved. Donations can be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or another charity of your choice.
