Val Fleming Obituary, Shaw Festival Mourns Val Fleming Death

Val Fleming Obituary, Death – Kathleen Fleming died in 2022. Her “force of nature” will be missed.
1928 Ontario birth. She was a good student and reader post-depression. Her lawyer dad served in Nova Scotia during WWII. Family moved to Ontario after WWII. Val became a “Farmerette” in Niagara Peninsula in 1948. 19-year-old Val wanted Art Fleming to pick her up in Beamsville. During their yearlong relationship, Val was introduced to the region and church of Christ. She was baptized at 20 and followed Christ.

Art and Val married on October 7, 1950 in Brantford, Ontario.
Val wanted a large family and grew the Chicken Hatchery with Art. Peggy’s older brothers are A.D., Tom, John, and Andy. 1954-1958 were muddled. Clean home radiated love and energy. This woman’s organization was fun. Music lessons, skating, hockey, church activities, Bridge Club, art lessons, and Maple Leaf games filled the days. Val likes good food, backyard fun, family, and volunteering. There was always a guest room with more bedrooms, a “family” room, and basement space.

Val, 40, earned a BA in urban geography from Brock (with 5 teenagers). She improved her world through planning and development. Val collected world-famous art. Her list included art, quilts, books, and Irish Belleek. Heavenly Arts, Books, and Crafts in Beamsville’s uptown.
Traveling families increased. Art and Val packed the station wagon for family adventures, but they loved flying to southern France for romantic picnics and Mediterranean living. Nearly 40 years of trips to Cap d’Agde. Their 1950 Florida honeymoon. Palm trees and sunny views calming Pompano Beach. Generations bonded.

Val’s faith led her to Switzerland, France, Sweden, Honduras, Mexico, India, Russia, and Ukraine. Her favorite organizations were Brock, Shaw, Hamilton, Niagara, Beleek, and Niagara College. Her Gourmet Group, reading, and Butterfly obsession represent friends, community, and special events. Fleming Branch Library and Butterfly Garden are must-sees. Her life was beautiful.

Val’s parents died. Her grief lasted 8 years. Arthur, John, and Andy Fleming always tell her stories. Hilary Reed, Hayley Hardcastle, Kathryn Boeker, Martine Fleming, Johanna Fleming, Andrew Fleming, Rachel Fleming Justin, Joshua, Kaitlyn, and Kathryn Fleming (Allison). Great-grandchildren are multiplying.
